Louis XV style, rosewood and other mixed veneers, floral marquetry top and dovetailed drawer with rosewood linings, legs with heavy bronze mounts, cross-stretcher with central urn finial, lock signed "L. Grade Paris, R Castex", finished on four sides, French, 1852-1856, 29-1/2 x 53 x 34 in. Bubbling and some veneer losses with patches and repairs to top, scattered surface wear and losses, large area of restoration to marquetry and ground on top, otherwise good condition with minor veneer losses and repairs. Provenance: The Estate of the Late Thelma H. Osborne, Wilkesboro, North Carolina The Parisian [ebeniste] Louis Grade is recorded at 9 Rue Castex in 1852. By 1856 he had moved to 23 Rue de la Paix. His firm exhibited at the London and Paris Expositions, and he received an honorable mention at the 1852 London Exhibition for a marquetry inlaid table.
