Germany, probably Nuremberg, first quarter of the 19th century, an incredibly early example of German toy production. It features a finely painted molded composition Prussian Officer in full dress riding a rearing brown horse with detailed painted face, tack, mane, tail, heavily molded saddle and blanket, mounted to a faux grass painted wood platform with inset wood wheels. 11" L. Very Good (repainted epaulettes on uniform, some composition cracking on horse body and soldiers right leg, an incredibly well preserved toy for its age)
