ANDREA ZITTEL, b. 1965
Rules of Raugh Portfolio, 2005
The complete set of 9 etching and aquatints in colors, on Magnani Pescia with Chine collé of colored Gampi papers, all I: 6 ½ x 8 7#8542; in. (16.5 x 22.5 cm).; all S: 13 ½ x 15 in. (34.3 x 38.1 cm). All signed with initials and numbered 12/20 in pencil (there were also 4 artist's proofs), published and printed by Jacob Samuel, Santa Monica (all with his blindstamp), all in excellent condition, original in blonde wood box (with justification/title page).

Rules of Raugh 1. Things should go wherever you put them in Raugh. 2. Because all possessions ultimately breakdown or wear out, a Raugh object must deteriorate beautifully. 3. It is vital that Raugh remain indefinatley adaptable. 4. Raugh objects ought not be functionally fixed. 5. Comfort is absolutely essential to Raugh. 6. A Raugh surface should absorb or camouflage dirt, rather than reveal it. 7. Raugh has to be progressive and regressive at the same time. 8. An expert is not required to make Raugh.    These beautifully printed intaglios (and constructed box) illustrate Andrea's ideas on the functionality of different type of rooms and shows multi-functional objects organizing and simplifying living spaces.  As for the definition of Raugh: (in her words) "While 'Raw' suggests a more natural or original state, 'Raugh' on the other hand actually means the way that something becomes naturally 'undone' over time and as the result of repeated lived experience...Raugh plays with the idea of 'natural order' and the way that the most progressive designs start out by looking backwards towards a more original or pure state of being."
