WILLIAM S. ROSECRANS, Union Civil War Major General.
Carte-de-visite Photograph Signed, "W.S. Rosecrans" at the lower edge of the image, Choice Very Fine. The autograph name is somewhat light; otherwise, this CDV is in excellent overall condition. It has the maker's stamp of "C.M. Bell of Washington, D.C." in gold on the lower front mount and again being larger on the back. Rosecrans led the Union Army of the Cumberland and to a victory at Stones River, for which he was given the thanks of Congress. His defeat at Chickamauga cost him his command. This is very rare, the Sanders reference book has no price listed for a signed photograph by Rosecrans and there are only two prior sales records listed in American Book Prices Current since 1975.
