first edition, [one of 50 copies], wood-engraved illustrations by John Buckland Wright, signed by the artist in pencil at end, slight marginal spotting, ink ownership signature on front free endpaper, original blue wrappers, uncut, paper label on upper cover, spine slightly faded and frayed at head and foot, [Reid A12i], 8vo, privately printed [for the Baron Emile Van der Borch] by A.A.M. Stols of Maastricht, 1933.

***The illustrations appear as white line engravings in the first edition but were reworked as silhouettes with additional white line hatching for the second edition (see following lot)..
