Thomson (David Croal) Life and Labours of Hablôt Knight Browne "Phiz", 1 vol. in 20, one of 200 copies, engraved portrait and 130 illustrations, extra-illustrated by the insertion of more than 1250 plates and illustrations, c. 92 original drawings and paintings comprising 11 watercolours and 81 pencil and ink drawings (a few with a touch of colour or double-sided) and 11 autograph manuscript items signed by Browne (most addressed to F. W. Cosens ?who possibly complied this collection), occasional foxing, superbly bound in crimson levant morocco, lavishly gilt, by C. B. Randall, spine gilt in compartments, t.e.g., others uncut, ornate gilt doublures with blue morocco inlay, large 4to, 1884. ***A magnificent work. Among the letters are a group of charming illustrated letters to Frederick William Cosens, an avid collector of Dickens. F. W. Cosens commissioned Browne to furnish him with watercolour drawings of every image he had created for the novels (more than 400 in all), the project took Browne several years to complete. .
