De Rossi (Azariah) Me'or 'Enayim, first edition, title within architectural woodcut border, woodcut decoration, old ink inscriptions to margins of title, a few small wormholes and minor marks to title and last f., light foxing, but overall in good clean condition, 17th century vellum, a very good copy, [Vinograd, Mantua 138], 4to, Mantua, 1574.***De Rossi's magnum opus, particularly important for his placing of scientific research and empiricism over the traditional interpretations by Talmudic scholars, much to the dismay of many of his contemporaries. The work was considered heretical and banned by the rabbinic authorities upon publication - only De Rossi's piety spared him further direct chastisement..
