Hoffy (Alfred) The Orchardist's Companion, A quarterly journal....fruits of the United States, 2 vol. in 1, first edition, 58 hand-coloured lithographed plates of American fruit, each with page of text, plate 9 (Maiden's Blush) damaged, one signature slightly loose, complete as issued, original publisher's hard-grain dark brown morocco binding, gilt, 4to, [Oak Spring Pomona], Philadelphia, 1841-43.***Scarce with the second volume present, published in 1842-43. The first American journal completely devoted to fruit ("Oak Spring Pomona") and one of the rarest of American works illustrated with hand-coloured lithographs. Alfred Hoffy was a skilled lithographer who worked for several firms in Philadelphia, but fruit & fruit trees were his major enthusiasm.
