Exceptional Louis XVI Style French Mahogany Vitrine

Exhibited at the 1889 Paris Furniature Exposition.In the Louis XVI style, the vitrine has a central beveled glass and display section flanked by quarter round stacks of drawers and shelves, the crest has a robustly carved ribbon and rose blossom carving with carved feather pommel gilt finials, the center display section is also flanked by reeded columns with crossed ribbon decorations, each side shelf section has a carved Ram's head with floral draped bouquets, all in gilt, the six drawers on each side have scroll and floral carved gilt fronts and are pivot hinged, the front door lower panel has a very detailed figural carving of putto riding a ram in a landscape with grape clusters and is inked / signed on the interior, the entire cabinet is supported on tapered twisting fluted legs, the cabinet is branded on the back by the maker: Maison Girard of 9 Place Des Cernes, cabinet measures 40" W x 15" D x 69" H.

Condition report

All original varnish appears intact, near pristine condition. Note: This article is accompanied by its original Purchase Receipt dated 1896 and an original display sheet from the furniture exposition in France in 1889, giving details of its decorations, this maker specialized in artistic sculptures, marble carvings, etc.. A museum quality piece.
