Late 19th C. Japanese Handmade Pottery Figure 2 Mo

Modeled as an adult monkey with child, the baby monkey is holding a piece of fruit while clutching to the mother's arm, both figures are perched upon a rock with a Japanese inscribed panel on the LL edge of the base, possibly indicating the maker, both figures have inset black glass eyes applied separately, entire statue measures 20-1/4" H x 13" Widest point x 10" D.

Baby monkey had been previously fractured from the figure and re-glued, item has a very heavy overall patina and some moderate wear on the high points consistent with the age, no other major damage found.
