1864, THE NEW YEAR'S ADDRESS... NEW YORK HERALD..., NY, Very Fine.
Broadside measuring 24" x 18.25", on a large, lightly toned sheet, depicting 25 different portraits of Union generals, including Grant, Sherman, Meade, Butler, Hooker, Sickles and others. Four-column verses describe the battles of the previous year, and the hopes for the future. Some separation along top and horizontal folds, repaired with tape on verso and top edge. Absences to lower left corner, well away from printed area. Slightly soiled along creases, otherwise nice. The motto "THE UNION MUST BE PRESERVED" flows beneath a large central portrait of Grant just above a rendering of the "CONSTITUTION." Apparently a special item to subscribers and readers as of Jan. 1, 1864. An impressive item for display.
