Superb Quality Tintype Of A Middle-Aged Black Woman
c. 1860, Full Plate Tintype, A Middle-Aged Black Woman, Superb Quality, Very Choice Extremely Fine.
This wonderful full plate tintype portrait of a middle-aged African American woman, has been expertly hand painted to add some color to the portrait, at a time when color photography was not possible. This seated Negro Woman is wearing a black gown with white lace collar and sleeve trimmings. She wears gold earrings, 4 gold rings, and 2 gold broaches. All of this is set against a maroon background. This wonderful portrait is presently housed in a spectacular wooden frame, the inner part of which is gilt, while the outer part, featuring high relief leaves and seed pods, is done in copper and gold. The outer part of the frame has some cracks and is missing 3 small pieces.
