Important Multiple Block Of Georgia September 10, 1777
Georgia. September 10, 1777. Uncut Block of Four Uniface Color Seal Vignette Notes. $3-$4-$7-$8 Denominations. PMG graded Net Choice Very Fine-35.
Graded "Net" and noted on the back of the encapsulation as having "Restoration". This is a lovely and impressive example of this historic issue, "for the Support of the Continental Troops." It is quite a remarkable find in that there are very few multiples of Georgia Colonial notes known. The majority are 1778 uncut sheets (the vast majority have been cut into single notes). Earlier series multiple and color seal types are virtually impossible to obtain. This is the only multiple block of this color seal issue we have seen or handled. We are certain it came from the Stack's Americana Sale several years backs. There were no blocks like this in the Ford-Boyd Collection. Each denomination bears an impressive, bold color seal. The $3 with red Frontiersman, the $4 with red Stag, the $7 with blue Liberty Cap and the $8 with bold blue Congress and Thirteen Link chain. Not only is it an excellent thematic seal issue from the Revolutionary War era, but it also very rare as a text type. These notes used red color for the word "in" between "DOLLARS" and "CONTINENTAL" on the fourth line. The red "in" types are very tough. The block has bold colors and is well margined on four sides. Each of the individual notes might be classified as all being Extremely Fine. The designated "restoration" is nearly invisible (being reinforcement along the gutter folds on the blank reverse). The overall eye appeal is superb and this is an important uncut block for the specialist in Georgia colonial currency. An absolute showpiece and right up there among the most significant Georgia Colonial Currency note items we have offered. Exceedingly rare.
