Colonial Currency, NC April 2, 1776, $1, $5 Notes
Description
North Carolina CurrencyLot of Two April 2, 1776 "Duck" and "Thrush" Notes
North Carolina. Lot of Two Notes. Both April 2, 1776, Halifax Issue. $1 "Duck" and $5 "Thrush" Denominations. About Fine and Fine, respectively.
The "Duck" vignette at the lower left remains the most outstanding feature of this exceedingly rare $1 denomination and combination. The note is lightly printed at center and has been split at the centerfold, then previously pinned together and now has numerous pinholes and a thin strip of fibrous early archival tape used as a reinforcement on the blank reverse. There are scattered pinholes and a small edge chink at the upper left, otherwise the note remains fairly whole and intact. It is certainly rare in any grade and missing from most collections. Even in this lower grade, this more affordable "filler" note can be added to any collection. The "Thrush" vignette note is backed with a fibrous paper. It has small edge chips at bottom and surface thins with some small pieces restored at the edges. Lot sold "as is." (2 notes)
