Colonial Currency, NC, April 2, 1776, $5, TRITON
Description
North Carolina CurrencyTwo April 2, 1776 Five Dollars "Triton" & "Thrush" Notes
North Carolina. Lot of Two Notes. Both April 2, 1776, Halifax Issue. Both Five Dollars. "Triton" and "Thrush" Vignettes. Both are Choice Extremely Fine.
The "Triton" note is a most unusual example having been printed "horizontally" on laid paper, instead of the usual "vertical" laid paper. Quite bold and clean with several trivial tiny sealed edge splits in the bottom margin selvage. The "Thrush" vignette note is very bright and clean, having three very large and one full bottom margin. Bold red and brown signatures and serial number further add to the tremendous eye appeal of this lovely, fresh looking note. It is one of the finest examples of this denomination and vignette combination we have ever seen. Both notes are impressive, far above average examples. (2 notes)
