1787 Act for Raising Money "by Lottery"
July 6, 1787, ACTS AND LAWS, PASSED BY THE GENERAL COURT OF MASSACHUSETTS, Very Fine.
Measuring 14" x 9", pp. 632-644, printed by "Adams and Nourse, Printers to the Honorable General Court," Boston, MA. Covering several months of legislation begun May 31, 1787 and concluded July 6, 1787. Includes an "Act for authorizing two or more Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court, to hold Sessions of the said Court in the Counties of Cumberland and Lincoln." Also, an Act to establish naval offices and notaries, and an Act for raising money by lottery. The Lottery Act appears on page 642: Chap. XIII, "An Act for raising by Lottery, the Sum of three Thousand Pounds, for the Purpose of building a Glass-House, and promoting the Manufacture of Crown and other Glass, in Boston,' and for the Purpose of promoting the Manufacture of Crown and other Glass, within this Commonwealth." Soiled, dampstained pages, separated, and worn at the corners. Terrific engraving of the Massachusetts state seal on the front page.
