Document Signed "R.B. Hayes" Regarding Black Freedmen Jones Fund For The "EDUCATION OF FREEDMEN"

RUTHERFORD B. HAYES.
c. 1882, Partially-Printed Partial Document Signed, "R.B. Hayes," from the Slater Fund for the Education of Freedmen, Signed by Former President Rutherford B. Hayes, Choice Very Fine. This is an important, Post Civil War document, Hayes' signature being on the cover of a printed portion of a cover page from a document titled: "Organization of the Trustees of the John F. Slater Fund for the Education of Freedmen." This 5.5" x 6.25" page has been inscribed, "For E.S. Marsh Compliments of R.B. Hayes" and below, "See p. 19". Not viewed out of this frame, it is unknown if the document is complete. Therefore, it is valued here as being the signed frontispiece only. It is nicely triple-matted with a portrait and brass plaque, set into a 19.25" x 23.5" decorative black and gilt wooden presentation frame and is ready for hanging on display. A great Post Civil War, "R.B. Hayes" signed, Black History and "Freedmen" related display.

The "Slater Fund" was an agency created by Northern philanthropists who's noble goal it was to underwrite projects for the benefit of Southern African American's further education. Hayes became president of the organization in 1882.
