Outstanding An Extra-illustrated Tribute to William H. Taft Privately Printed extra-illustrated Book by noted Lincoln Collector John E. Boos

April 12, 1918, Typescript Signed "Wm Taft", ten pages, 6.25" x 9", Albany, NY, "Governors Cambers", Extremely Fine. The typescript is housed as part of a privately printed extra illustrated book by noted Lincoln collector John E. Boos: A Look Backward Stephen A. Douglass [sic] Address at Galesburg, Illinois October, 7, 1908 (Albany: J.E. Boos, 1919, but compiled through 1930, hand paginated to page 55 with a 71 page article from National Geographic, by Taft titled, "Washington: Its Beginning, Its Growth, and Its Future," measuring 6.25" x 9" and housed in three quarter calf marbled boards with titled spine "TAFT". Taft signs the final page of his address on the Lincoln-Douglas debate, delivered on the 50th anniversary of their 1858 meeting at Galesburg. The compiler and publisher of the book, J. E. Boos has assembled other signed testimonials concerning the character of the only person to ever hold both the office of president and chief justice of the Supreme Court. The volume includes a blank page signed by New York Governor CHARLES S. WHITMAN (1868-1947). Others include WILLIAM E. BOARAH, March 14, 1930, Typescript Document Signed "Wm E Borah", one page, 6.25" x 9", [n.p.] signing a tribute to Taft written a week following his death: "NO greater honor can ever come to an American than the people conferred upon William H. Taft--President and Chief Justice of the United States. A marvelous career. A proud, a unique place in American history. And withal a most loveable character." Other signed tributes include Taft's former colleagues and associates FRED A. BRITTEN, GUY D. GOFF, J. THOMAS HEFLIN, WESLEY L. JONES, DAVID A. REED, SAMUEL M. SHORTRIDGE, FURNIFOLD MCL. SIMMONS, and JOHN Q. TILSON. In all, this is a unique, fascinating and quite thoughtful tribute to Taft.
