JONATHAN TRUMBULL, Aide-de-Camp to General George Washington; Congressman; Senator and the Governor of Connecticut.
Partly-printed Document Signed "Jona Trumbull" as Governor of Connecticut, on laid paper, October 15, 1807, New Haven, 7.75" x 12.75", Extremely Fine. Here, Trumbull is appointing William W. Avery "Ensign of the first Company in the 8th Regiment of Militia in this State...." Countersigned by Samuel Wyllys as Secretary. There is some trivial light toning and a couple of trivial pinholes at folds. The large white paper and wax seal is fully intact, looking magnificent and Trumbull's huge 4.5" long signature is bold.

Jonathan Trumbull was a Continental Army paymaster and the first Comptroller of the Treasury, before serving as George Washington's secretary (1781-83). He served as a congressman from 1789-94, as Speaker of the House from 1791-94, and senator from 1795-96; he was governor of Connecticut from 1797-1809.
