Presentation Of Andrew Jackson's Sword To Congress
(ANDREW JACKSON).
The original 40-page collection of speeches, printed on white paper and bound in a black, embossed hard cover, measuring 9" x 5.75", was published in Washington, D.C. by Beverley Tucker in 1855, on order of the United States Senate. The full title is: "Addresses on the Presentation of the Sword of Gen. Andrew Jackson to the Congress of the United States. The first speech is by Senator Cass of Michigan, who explains that the sword was carried by Jackson in all his campaigns, including the Battle of New Orleans, and that Jackson presented the sword, on his deathbed, to General Armstrong. In 1855, Gen. Armstrong's son, William M. Armstrong, presented the sword to Congress. A very interesting account of an important American historical relic. This book is in excellent overall condition, complete and tightly bound, with most of the original gilding remaining on the front cover. Both covers have some wrinkling in the center, probably from the production process, and show little wear. A few light age spots appear on the pages, which generally are clean and bright. More extensive age toning appears inside the covers and on the endpapers, which doesn't affect any content. The original owner's name, A.T. Woodward, appears at the top of the title page, with an 1855 date, and the name Solom. Foot. Solomon Foot was a Senator from Vermont at that time. A great piece of historical information on Andrew Jackson.
