Great Anti-William Jennings Bryan "Skeleton" Pinback

1896, 'Skeleton' Stick Pin with slogan "16 to 1 is Dead," Choice Very Fine.
This is one of the most evocative negative campaign items from the close of the 19th century, the pro-William McKinley, anti-Bryan stickpin. The chest is a solid breast-plate marked "16 to 1 is Dead." (This was the campaign issue for 1896: Bryan advocated the free-coinage of silver as a means to loosen credit while the gold-standard was being supported by McKinley and the Republicans.) When the latch on the breast-plate is depressed, it pops open to reveal a photographic portrait of Bryan. The entire device is suspended from a stickpin by a spring, made to bobble about as a "spooky" warning to voters! The breast clasp is absent, but the mechanism is in working order. This is a nicer than usually found specimen of this classic political. Exceedingly Rare!
