Important William McKinley Mourning Collection Archive
Large Collection and Archive of 25 Items, all relative to the life and death of William McKinley, Very Good to Choice Very Fine.
This extensive collection consists of approximately 25 items. This historic collection includes medals, ribbons, postcards, ballots, Postal First-day-covers, engravings and a book, pertaining to the career of William McKinley. Of special interest are three celluloid mourning buttons bearing a photo of the assassinated president, as well as a 1.75" x 5.5" black bordered silk ribbon for, "MEMORIAL SERVICES PRESIDENT MCKINLEY - THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19, 1901" This group also includes a printed eight page, 6" x 9" memorial program for McKinley, held in Massachusetts, September 19, 1901. The group also includes a period biography, Memorial Life of William McKinley, Our Martyred President, (Chicago: Thompson & Thomas, 1901) 480 pages, 9.57" x 7" cloth hardbound covers with gilt-stamped lettering, and black-and-white inlaid portrait, bearing significant wear. This collection also includes some interesting items from his election including a 2.25" x 7.75" yellow silk ribbon bearing a portrait of McKinley and printed in honor of a Civil War reunion: "THE UNION VETERANS OF CANTON, OHIO, TO THE CONFEDERATE VETERANS OF VIRGINIA - CANTON, OHIO, OCTOBER 9TH, 1896." The ribbon, likely a piece of political fence-mending, bears a small loss at top right and light soiling. The collection also includes postcards and other ephemera from the era, perfect for anyone interested in McKinley, Roosevelt and the dawn of the United States as a world power.
