Black with blue overprint Stock Signed "Fremont" on back of this 6" x 10.25" document, featuring an engraved panoramic view of the city and mountains, and a smaller vignette of a woman at the left. Issued to "Fremont and Morton". Small chip at top margin, not affecting text or signatures in the least. Rare!
John Charles Frémont (1813-1890), was an explorer, the first candidate of the Republican Party to run for President, and the first presidential candidate of a major party to run on a platform in opposition to slavery. During the 1840s, that era's penny press nicknamed Frémont "The Pathfinder."
