Auction details |
CONDITION: h.r., dark shade and sharp impression on bright white paper with well-formed perfs all around, Completely Sound GRADE: Fine CERTIFICATES: 1970 and 2008 PF (both are sequential with the 3c) COMMENTS: 1,361 reportedly printed. Bill Mooz has extensively studied and researched Special Printings and has evidence that the actual number of special printings that exists is significantly less than the numbers reported in the Scott Catalogue. In actuality, the 2c Postage Due Special Printing is one of the rarest of the Postage Due Special Printings, not one of the most common. Empirical evidence provided by searching Robert A. Siegel's website yields only seven examples of Scott J9 since they began continuously keeping previous auctions on the web (1997-2008). Accompanied by Stampazine retail card where acquired by the owner. It is surmised that the 2c and 3c were purchased together in a late 1969 or early 1970 auction by Stampazine and then sold by the firm to the collector, meaning they have been unavailable for approximately 35 years. Scott Catalogue: $17,500
