16th Century dated Carved Arm Chair inscribed "1597" and decorated with inset green stone tablets. The arm posts are masterfully carved in the form of a beautiful woman holding a chalice and a muscular man with long hair wearing a lion skin. The back panel is elaborately pierce carved and features rotund cherubs and scrolling leaves and vines. Exhibits various old restorations including portion of seat stretcher and glue repair to the back panel. Nice old finish. Probably Italian. 4' 1/2"h x 2' 1"w x 20"d
