Replacing the acclaimed F355 Berlinetta, Ferrari’s 360 Modena was a brilliant design that artfully blended sophisticated styling, blinding performance, and advanced race-bred technology. As always, GT competition quickly ensued. The JMB Racing team fielded a very strong 360 to capture the 2001 FIA N-GT World Championship, encouraging Ferrari to produce the 360 GT. From there, the 360 evolved into the 360 GTC, which was intended to stave off the formidable advance of the Porsche 996 GT3 RSR in international competition.

Utilizing technology developed on the track, the GTC incorporated a sequential six-speed gearbox, an electronics package developed by Magneti Marelli, and engine modifications to improve output to 445 brake horsepower. With its aluminium monocoque chassis, dry weight stood at 1,100 kilograms. Combined with its improved fuel consumption, the new Porsche-fighter was remarkably well equipped for endurance races. Perhaps most notably, aerodynamics were refined considerably as the car was homologated by FIA/ACO from the Challenge Stradale. As such, the GTC incorporated a unique front bumper, side skirts, engine cover, and a striking rear wing.

Available through Ferrari’s Corse Clienti division, the 360 GTC was first available for the 2004 season, meeting the requirements of the N-GT class. This particular example, chassis 2060, was used with great success by Scuderia Playteam, solidifying the race team’s standing among the GT elite. Winning both the Italian and Spanish GT Championships in 2005, the Playteam Ferrari went on to win the 2006 Mil Milhaus in Brazil and secured pole position at Vallelunga the same year, beating the newer Ferrari 430s in the process.

Directed from the outset at privateer efforts, the F360 GTC represents the purest iteration of Ferrari’s competitive sportscar character, of which this championship-winning car is an outstanding and highly desirable example.

Sostituta dell’amatissima F355 Berlinetta, la 360 Modena nasceva da un brillante progetto che armonizzava sapientemente stile sofisticato, prestazioni sorprendenti e tecnologia avanzata. Come da tradizione, la vettura fu subito impiegata nelle gare GT. Il team JMB Racing utilizzò una 360 per conquistare il Mondiale N-GT FIA del 2001, incoraggiando la Ferrari a produrre la 360 GT. Da quel momento, la 360 si trasformò in 360 GTC, destinata a ridurre il vantaggio della Porsche 996 GT3 RSR nelle competizioni internazionali.

Dotata delle tecnologie sviluppate in pista, la GTC monta un cambio sequenziale a sei rapporti, un’elettronica sviluppata dalla Magneti Marelli ed un motore modificato per aumentare la potenza a 445 CV. Con il suo telaio monoscocca in alluminio, un peso a secco di 1.100 kg ed un consumo di carburante nettamente migliore, la nuova anti-Porsche era ben equipaggiata per le gare di durata. L’aerodinamicità della GTC era il frutto di un paraurti frontale, di minigonne laterali e copri motore dalla forma unica e di un originale alettone posteriore.

Disponibile presso la divisione Corse Clienti Ferrari, la 360 GTC fu lanciata per la prima volta nella stagione 2004, rispettando i requisiti della classe N-GT. Questo esemplare, telaio n° 2060, fu utilizzato con grande successo dalla Scuderia Playteam consolidando la posizione del team nell’elite della GT. Vincendo il Campionato GT italiano e spagnolo nel 2005, la Ferrari del Playteam proseguì con la vittoria del Mil Milhaus nel 2006 in Brasile e conquistò la pole position a Vallelunga lo stesso anno, battendo anche le Ferrari 430.

Destinata fin dal suo esordio ai team privati, la F360 GTC rappresenta nel modo più puro possibile il carattere competitivo delle vetture sportive Ferrari di cui questa vettura, vittoriosa in più di un campionato, è un eccezionale ed appetibile esempio.
