A used white helmet by Pilot, signed and notated: A mon ami Raymond en souvenir du Tour de France 1959, with leather peak and brim, combined leather neck and ear flap protection, adjustable chin strap, leather and canvas lined interior bearing the relevant French and British safety standard numbers. Used condition, dirty but not damaged.
Mairesse drove a Ferrari 250GT into a fiercely fought second place that year, having been beaten by his nemesis, fellow Belgian, Olivier Gendebien. However, Ferrari was sufficiently pleased and adopted him for the following year's Targa Florio in which he finished fourth and lead to him making his Grand Prix debut at Spa later the same year. The dedication is possibly to Raymond Pirson, with whom he shared his Peugeot 203 saloon in the 1954 Liege-Rome-Liege rally in which they finished 28th.
