Metal plate with photographs of Scott #212 as an example with 3 different essay stamps. All have different style frames and profile vignettes that were never used for this issue. 2 of the photo proofs are stamp sized and one is 3 time the size. Evidently, this was the beginning of the engraving process in producing the final stamp. Top of the metal plate has printed "O-866 ENGRAVE Steel Die of 2c Postage Stamp" and handwritten is "TRANS." on lower left. Initialed and dated on the lower right 12/36. 3 unique photo-proofs by ABNC. Unique item in archive.
