This is the original plaster maquette for Daniel Chester French's sculpture "First Division Memorial" also called "Victory". Like his iconic Lincoln Memorial, this monument is located in Washington DC. See http://www.nps.gov/whho/historyculture/first-division-monument.htm Signed on base D C French 1922. Dimensions: 38 1/2 inches high including base and approximately 12 inches wide . The bronze 75"" version of this maquette was sold by Sotheby's in NY in 2001 for $250,000. Provenance: from a home in Old Lyme CT, thence to the collection of a noted American sculptor. Condition - this was a working model and is essentially intact, but various surface damage; lacking the final piece's wings, arms, flag, and top of helmet Dimensions: 38"" high Condition: this working plaster model is figure and face; lacking the arms and wings which were affixed separately. Essentially similar to its photograph in the 2002 history ""Century of American Sculpture The Roman Bronze Works Foundry"" by Lucy Rosenfeld"
