BILIBIN, Ivan Yakovlevich [Ivan Bilibine] (1876-1942) and Frantisek DRTIKOL (photographer 1883-1961). I. Ya. Bilibin.
Vintage photograph of the great Russian illustrator by the classic modern Czech photographer. With photographer's stamp, dated 1927. (220 x 170 mm). Framed. inscribed on verso by i. ya. bilibin. F. Drtikol was one of the most influential Czech photographers of his generation. Rightly famous for his nudes, he is less known for his striking portraits. Although he died largely forgotten, he is today recognized as one of the world's great modern photographers. For example, his experimental work inspired the recent Vanity Fair cover and interior photospread of pop-icon Madonna. Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin left Russia in 1920 and settled in Paris in 1925 where he continued to design costumes and stage sets primarily for the opera. This sitting likely dates from his one-man show in Prague in 1926.Images
