The Silver Age of Russian Poetry has been called the "Age of Blok." Anna Akhmatova, Vladimir Nabokov, Boris Pasternak and Marina Tsvetaeva all admired his work. Remarkably he embraced Russian Revolution and composed his most controversial work Dvenadtsat [The Twelve] (1918) in which he likened twelve Bolshevik soldiers in Petrograd to the Twelve Apostles of Christ.
