Group of 10 postcards of costume designs, issued to benefit the St. Evgenya Red Cross Society and lithographed in color by Golike and Wilborg, St. Petersburg, 1912-1916. Each 140 x 90 mm. Condition: all unused; some spotting. [With:] 5 postcards of Russian and Polish peasants, issued to benefit the St. Evgenya Red Cross Society and lithographed in color by N. Kadushin, St. Petersburg, 1915. Each 140 x 90 mm. Condition: all unused. M. V. Dobuzhinsky was one of the most versatile artists of the Mir Iskusstva [World of Art] group. He frequently drew costumes for the Ballets Russes and other theatrical troupes. He was also a gifted teacher whose students included Marc Chagall and Vladimir Nabokov. After the Russian Revolution, he fled to Lithuania. He worked in the theater all over Europe and in England before eventually settling in the United States. (15)(15)Images
