Provenance: Maria Vladimirovna Chekhova, the playwright Anton Chekhov's sister. Condition: some wear to leather, corners bumped and some soiling to pages including pencil scribbling on one page. presentation copy to chekhov's sister. This copy warmly inscribed on the dedication page and dated February 25, 1904 and with a contemporary photographic postcard of M Gorky laid in. Gorky was editor of the "Znanie" publishing company.
