Consists of 5 vols. in original wrappers, 13 vols. bound in brown cloth over brown boards with lettering labels stamped in gilt, 2 vols. bound in blue cloth over marbled boards, and 50 vols. bound in black cloth over marbled boards. Condition: a few unbound vols. slightly cocked and stained, one with split to spine; leaf edges and inner leaves browned, some corners slightly bumped, occasional light rubbing. the most important of the russian emigre literary journals. Beginning in 1929 with Zaschita Luzhina [The Defense], Sovremennye Zapiski published everything Vladamir Nabokov ("V. Sirin") wrote for the next decade (except for the fourth chapter of Dar [The Gift]. [With:] Russkie Zapiski [Russian Notes]. Paris and Shanghai, 1937-1939. Edited by N.P. Miliukov. Complete set comprising nos. 1-21 (bound in 19 vols.). Condition: occasional soiling to covers, some backstrips chipped with slight loss. Contributors include Benois, Remizov, "V. Sirin" (Vladimir Nabokov), Lifar, Teffi, Tsvetaeva and Bunin.
