GONCHAROVA RUSSIAN ART BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS

GONCHAROVA, Natalya Sergeevna (1881-1962). Two drawings for book illustrations.

c. 1912-1913. Colored pencil on paper. (101 x 228 and 228 x 304 mm). Inscribed on reverse in Cyrillic "Archive of V. M. Voronova, Moscow, 1912, N 107"; later inscription Donald Mitchel Denslag, Paris, 1924. Comprises two preliminary designs: One in violet and brown - for a color lithograph in Bobrov's book "Vertogradari nad lozami" [Gardeners over the Vines] published in Moscow in 1913; and the second in blue and brown - for a painting by Goncharova called "Hoar Frost" (1912). Provenance: bears the stamp of "Atelier M. Larionov" on the verso, affixed by Larionov's second wife, Alexandra Tomilina.
