New England Large Bitter Sweet Orange Painted Softwood Covered and Handled Firkin, tongue and groove staves with tapered lap joint wood bands, bentwood swing handle with wood peg attachments, stamped on lid is Diamond with "L" in center, under lid in pencil states "bought dollar day Sept. 7 1917", on bottom stenciled "W.C. Sawyer & Co. Portland". 14"h. x15-½"dia., (surface and paint wear).
