Historical Newspaper. Very extensive and descriptive letter, directly from San Francisco,1849 detailing the conditions in the California gold rush. The Lowell Advertiser, January 22, 1850, Lowell Massachusetts, 4pp. In part: "75 miles north east of Stockton...At this place we found about 150 men at work in what was once the bed of a river, but now scarcely worthy the name of a brook; indeed, where most of them worked it was perfectly dry...Friday, the 7th, commenced digging for gold; found none. Saturday, ditto. Monday found a little, being the fourth hole we had dug. Tuesday, found this hole to be pretty rich. Saturday morning , my party got sick of gold digging, and were bound to go directly back to San Francisco." Excellent content. Some folds; in very good condition. ![]() page for more information about Autographs our Guarantee and Our Company.
