Historic Newspaper. Kansas City Journal November 4,1879. One of the most famous outlaws of the American West who formed a gang with his brothers, holding up banks, stagecoaches, and trains. Front page stacked headlines strangely predict his fate three years before his actual death: "With Boots On / Jesse James, Notorious Missouri Outlaw, Meets his Fate / Betrayed by an Old Comrade Who Takes Terrible Revenge/ Sketches of the Men Who Composed the Gang..." 2-1/2 column long story concludes on page two. Article reads "Marshall Ligett received a dispatch from Short Creek..that George Sheperd had had an encounter with the James brothers gang and had killed Jesse...It is true that his body has not been found and the whole story rest upon the unsupported testimony of the man Sheperd ."Sheperd was in fact a former train robber himself and James would not be killed until 1882 when he was shot by a fellow gang member for a reward. Remarkable story . About 1"x2" paper loss affects this story on both pages, otherwise good condition. ![]() page for more information about Autographs our Guarantee and Our Company.
