This entire lot comes from a consignor/collector who knew Buck Barker personally. Barker is widely regarded as one of the true pioneers of card collecting. His contributions to the hobby are too numerous to mention. From researching, cataloging, and identifying cards, to corresponding with fellow collectors; he was a true hobbyist and enthusiastic collector. Included here are many off-shoot and team specific sets, along with many pages of correspondence, and even a canceled check (possibly for a 'send-off' set). Highlights include many near and complete sets of the following issues: 1958-60 L.A. Dodgers premium pictures; 1962 Union Oil Dodgers, including original mailing envelope and letter to Charles(Buck) Barker; 1964 Philadelphia Phillies Bulletin (including one Jim Bunning and missing the other); 1964 Union Oil Dodgers; 1964 Western Oil Twins; 1969 Citgo Mets; 1969 N.Y. News Mets Portfolio of Stars; 1969 Atlantic Richfield Red Sox; 1969 Union Oil Dodgers; 1969 San Diego Padres premium pictures; there is even a Chicago White Sox picture pack with one of Barker's famous notations on the back reading Sullivan 1969" (John Sullivan?). Many other issues represented in this lot, many with Barker's notes. The 'Standard Catalog' values this lot at almost $2000, but given the origins and correspondence notes collectors should find it priceless!
