A personal letter, presumably to a fan or fellow player, hand-written and signed by Ty Cobb! This 7¼"x6" letter is dated December 22nd, 1944, and written on his own 'Tyrus R. Cobb' stationery. In the letter to 'Allen', Cobb talks about not having his mail forwarded while away in Idaho and Nevada (vacation?) because, quoting the Georgia Peach: "I have no one to help me with correspondence and it sometimes gets me down." He offers best wishes and signs his signature with typical flourish. Though often vilified by baseball historians as somewhat of a bad seed, letters like this present Cobb as a human being with emotions like everyone else, pushing against the inertia of an imposing and often terrifying public image. A fascinating window into the personal thoughts of the great Ty Cobb. (James Spence LOA)
