Legendary owner Bill Veeck was known for his innovations and publicity stunts. During his stint as the St. Louis Browns owner, he pulled off his most famous stunt by allowing 3'7 Eddie Gaedel to pinch-hit in a regulation baseball game...he walked. Among his many interesting and perhaps somewhat oddball innovations was the 'Baby Brownies' Future Player's Contract offered here. This 'contract' was given out to the parents of local St. Louis infant boys. In essence, this document certifies the child as an automatic member of St. Louis Browns 'sub-junior affiliates'; in good standing, these 'members' were to report to spring training upon March 1st of their eighteenth year. This particular contract is unassigned and dated in 1952, making the reporting year 1970; of course the Browns would move to Baltimore in 1954, thereby breaking these contracts. This fascinating piece of vintage memorabilia is in excellent condition, with very little wear and tear on the 8½"X11" parchment document (the bottom right corner is mildly stained). It is pre-signed in blue ink by Bill Veeck himself. An unusual piece of memorabilia and great story piece.
