1966 BUSCH STADIUM 'FIRST NIGHTER' SIGNED CERT

Sign In to see what this sold for

An incredible artifact, this Busch Stadium inaugural season certificate is hand-signed by several contemporary players, including eight Hall-of-Famers! A descendant of the consignor, then 10 years old, physically took this document to the lobby of the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis and had players sign as they stepped off the elevator the night prior to the 1966 All-Star game. HOFer signatures include: Hank Aaron, Lou Boudreau, Senator Jim Bunning, Jim 'Catfish' Hunter, Sandy Koufax (his final year), Willie McCovey, Frank Robinson, and then Cardinal Manager Red Schoendienst. Other All-Star signatures: Felipe Alou, Earl Battey, Lew Krausse and possibly Jim Ray Hart (mystery signature). Also, Yankees Manager (and former Cardinals Manager) Johnny Keane has signed, as well as then Cardinal coach and former player Dick Sisler. Interestingly enough, 'The Singing Cowboy' Gene Autry also signed this document; he was at the time the owner of the California Angels. Certificate comes with a few condition issues: a major vertical crease across the middle, as if folded for a long period of time; also some yellowing. A 'map' of the signatures, as well as a more detailed story about the item's provenance, accompany the certificate. Suitable for framing. Not just Cardinal fans, but also fans of modern baseball history can appreciate this lot. (PSA/DNA LOA)
