An Associated Press B&W wire photo of two Yankee legendary sluggers, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. This photo was taken during Spring Training in 1968, seven seasons after their historic battle to break Babe Ruth's single-season home run record. Both players would retire at the end of the 1968 season, each playing their last games one day apart. This photo captures a lighter moment, as both players prepared for an exhibition game between Mantle's Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals, for whom Maris would finish his troubled career. Dated March 30th, 1968, the B&W photograph retains its caption and is in excellent shape, although it does appear hand-cut, especially along the bottom and right side. Fans of the Mick and Mr. Maris should certainly appreciate this fascinating find.
