GREAT MOMENTS IN BASEBALL SIGNED BASEBALLS

Sign In to see what this sold for

Three multi-player hand-signed baseballs commemorating great post-season moments in MLB history. In chronological order, first event was the fourth game of the 1941 World Series in the 9th inning with two outs, with the Brooklyn Dodgers set to tie the series with the Yankees at two games apiece, Dodger catcher Mickey Owen dropped the third strike, thus allowing the Yankee batter Tommy Henrich to reach first base - the Yankees went on to win the game, creating a 3-to-1 game lead and ultimately the championship. An ONL (Coleman) baseball carries both of these players blue ink signatures on the ball's sweet spot. The second event is the famous walk-off home run by Bobby Thomson of the New York Giants against Ralph Branca of the Dodgers, thus securing the NL pennant of 1951. This is an ONL (Coleman) ball, carries both Branca and Thomson's signature, as well as the date of the game inscribed (authenticated by Steiner). Finally, an MLB (Selig) ball signed by HOFer Reggie Jackson on the sweet spot, along with pitchers Burt Hooton, Elias Sosa and Charlie Hough on the south face of the ball. The inscription reads 'Game 6, 10-18-77' - during this game of the 1977 World Series, Reggie Jackson belted three consecutive homers, thus cementing his moniker forever as 'Mr. October.' Dodgers fans may not find this lot so appealing (since they are on the losing end of all three contests!); however, fans of baseball history or general autograph collectors should find this lot quite appealing.
