hand thrown double handled art pottery vase in blue glaze with green drips, inscribed signature to base reads "L. Mason / Walter Reed Hosp / Washington D.C. / Dec. 5-24." 12"
Beginning in 1918, Walter Reed Hospital employed "Reconstruction Aides" who used techniques such as art therapy for rehabilitation of wounded soldiers returning from WWI and WWII battlefields. Entirely composed of women employed as civilian contractors, they became the founders of medical specialties such as physical therapy and occupational therapy. This vase was crafted by a patient during convalescence at the hospital in 1924.

Glaze skip on foot original to piece, several minor glaze flakes to foot.
