watercolor, ink, and ink wash on paper, full length profile of gentleman dressed in cut away coat with white cravat with blue embellishment, with rolled manuscript in left hand and head held proudly upward, light watercolor shading to ground. En verso inscription on cardboard backing reads, "William Higgitt / my great grandfather / Annie Matilda Higgett Greene / " 'nee' Leggoe / Annie Matilda Green / is my mother, much beloved / wife of Frank Green / Dorothy Green or Greene / William Higgitt / was the man who / designed Tinsley Park / Colliery for the Earl Fitzwilliam / and was a Nottingham / shire / man." The Colliery mentioned in the inscription was a group coal mines in the Tinsley area of South Yorkshire, England, which were originally sunk in 1852.
