SS16.75" x 15.75', DOA 18.5" x 17.75"
Clementine (Clemontine) Mifflin was the daughter of Warner Mifflin and Elizabeth Laws. She was born September 16, 1830 in Camden Kent, Delaware and later moved with her family to Byberry, Philadelphia. Additional research is needed to determine the relationship of the maker's father, to Warren Mifflin (1745-1798) of Camden, Delaware and later Pennsylvannia who was an abolitionist and said to have been the first man in America to manumit his slaves, which he did in 1774. In the 1850 census, Clementine is listed, along with her siblings, in the Newbolt home. This sampler is listed in the 1991 personal property listing of Francis Newbolt of Paoli, PA. It is of direct decent from the family of his estate.
