Thomas S. Steele (MA, 1845 - 1903), Still Life,
oil on canvas, signed lower right "T. S. Steele / Paris. '92," a large art glass vase, flowers and newspapers are placed against a backdrop of rich silk brocade. Housed in period gilt composition frame. Steele, a former jeweler, embarked on a full-time art career in the late 1880s. His work took him to Europe and North Africa. He studied with Marcius Simonds while in France. A member of the Boston Art Club, Steele also exhibited at the National Academy of Design. DOA 32.75" x 26.75"; SS 25.75" x 19.5"
