HENRY SMITH, first Governor of the Province of Texas, printed document completed in manuscript, signed, 2 pp. Folio. San Felipe de Austin, January 10, 1836. Military appointment "In the name of the People of Texas, free and Sovereign" signed by Smith as Governor. The document is also signed by Charles B. Stewart as Secretary of Executive and on reverse by General Thomas Jefferson Chambers for whom Chambers County is named.
