A PAIR OF FRENCH RENAISSANCE STYLE LACQUERED BRONZE EWERS, late 19th early 20th century, each finely cast with a similar triton holding the shaped spout over a shell held aloft by his infant prodigy on a spreading circular neck of swirling fruiting foliage against a stippled ground above a beaded acanthus collar with one depicting Aphrodite being carried aloft by a hippocamp, reversing to her feeding a sea leopard, the other ewer depicting the scantly clad goddess Diana, the huntress resting with her hounds and collared stag, reversing to mischievous putti and forest nymphs attempting to awaken the sleeping goddess, within scrolling foliate reserves issuing blossoming rinceaux above a curled acanthus leaf base with lion's masks suspending fruiting garlands on a fluted socle and rectangular plinth, raised on an ebonized wood stand.
